|The ACT Vintage & Classic Club
SOME members of the Vintage and Classic Motorcycle Club of Canberra have been travelling around Oz for the past 3 months.About six months ago they were in touch with our Club sending us their itinerary. Robin has been in contact with the group and it was arranged to meet them at the Valley of the Giants on Thurs, Sept 21 on their way to Albany before carrying on to Esperance, the Nullarbor and home.
There were I think 11 of them riding 7 bikes, the oldest bike was a 1932 Norton, then a 1957 BMW R60/2, there were several other Triumphs and BMW's of 70's and early 80's vintage. They seemed like a great crowd and were obviously enjoying their trip, they had back-up vehicles with trailers, even a spare bike to ride if one of the bikes broke down. They had a few minor problems, but nothing they weren't able to fix.
We stopped in Denmark by the river for lunch, where it was possible to socialise with the visitors
That evening members of the Albany Section of the VMCC and our Club played host to them with a casserole tea. They took off the next morning for Esperance.
The bloke on the old BMW said to me on Thursday that he'd had no problems with the bike and it was running beautifully. Never ever say that as we know what happens. And it happened, I caught him pushing his bike on to one of the back-up trailers on Saturday morning, problem with the throttle cable. ha ha.
They have their own website: http://around2000.actweb.net/ . This opens up actwebnetwork, click on "Enter" then the links on the left-hand side. Click on the days in the Diary section to see what that day's ride was. This link takes you to their meeting with the AVCMC http://around2000.actweb.net/september/days/day82.html.
