Every year in late September the world-wide Distinguished Gentleman's Ride is held where tens of thousands of distinguished gentlefolk in hundreds of cities worldwide will don their cravats, tweak their moustaches, press their tweed and sit astride their classic and vintage-styled motorcycles to raise funds and awareness for menís health, specifically prostate cancer and menís mental health.
Founded in Sydney in 2012 where the first ride was held last year,
56,000 participants in 505 cities in 90 countries raised over 3.6
million US dollars.
We were a bit late to put it in the magazine but decided to do our bit
in Albany. Matt Wells organised the ride which has to be registered with
the organisation, then you as a rider or sponsor, register and donate
So on a damp Saturday morning, seven distinguished gentlemen met for a long coffee at Haz Beans before heading off on a short ride, which was made shorter by the rain that was pouring down.
The ride was then abbreviated and a direct run was made to the
distinguished Hybla Tavern where refreshments and a light lunch was the
order of the day.
We had a great time despite the weather and a good laugh.
Itís now going to become an annual event. So gentlemen and gentlewomen you have 12 months to get down to the op shop where you can purchase a three piece suit or a tuxedo for the price of a coffee and cake.
