Pink Ribbon | Ronnie & Antoinet's | Poker Run & Hillclimb | Around Oz | Pemberton | Cosy and Bethel | Calendar
We had a lot of enthusiastic riders looking forward to the Pink
Ribbon
fund raising ride on Sunday 21st October this year. The weather had
been looking ominous since Friday and on Sunday it was no better but we
had a fantastic turn out of riders and supporters on the day, being in
excess of 52 starters.
The entry was $10 and this included morning tea
and a raffle ticket.
Extra tickets were $1 and were in big demand.
The car park was very "pink" and looked great with an
assortment of scarves, feather boas & clothing.
We had a few bikes decorated with pink ribbons and bras, including my
car which proudly wore a pink bra for the day and transported Chris,
Sam and Joy around, don't worry Chris you'll back on
the bike very soon we hope.
We set off up the
Chester Pass Rd to the Kamballup hall. The rain was
gentle when we started but just got heavier! There was no sign of the
Porongurup ranges as we passed... they were
obscured by rain. Chris, Sam and Joy had gone ahead to get the urns
on and set out
the delicious morning tea which was thoroughly enjoyed when everyone
arrived cold and wet.
After everyone had coffee, cake and warmed up it was back on the
bikes and on to Gilberts winery. We continued down the Woogenilup Rd to
the Carbarup Rd which took us to the Kendenup townsite, then on to
Albany H/Way and to Gilberts. Well this is the way most of us went. Our
club president, disorienated because he was in a car, got lost and went
via Mt Barker...
With
two fires roaring on arrival at Gilberts, we rapidly thawed out
and relaxed, ready to eat again. Glasses of Gilberts quality red wine
were ordered by quite a few riders and went down very well. Our group
occupied the entire restaurant and the staff did a great job taking our
orders. We had planned a limited menu to keep the lunch casual and our
meals were on the tables in no time and were delicious.
Prize winners
of the raffles were:
A big thank you to the generous supporters of this event who donated raffle prizes and made cakes and especially to everyone who braved the inclement weather to come on the ride, making the day a huge success and helping to raise a total of $751.00 for our donation to Breast Cancer Research.
